Wave energy developer Carnegie Wave Energy Limited announces that it has made a commitment for the manufacturing and installation of the offshore foundations for the Perth Wave Energy project.

The contract for the installation of the foundations was awarded to Fugro Seacore (Australia) Pty Ltd (Fugro Seacore). As a provider of geotechnical services and specialist foundation solutions worldwide, Fugro Seacore is highly experienced in the marine renewables sector. Award of the contract followed a competitive bidding process which compared quality, cost, delivery and health and safety.

Carnegie’s Managing Director, Dr Michael Ottaviano said:

“The installation of the offshore foundations are a key activity for the Perth Wave Energy Project. The total foundation work package – including design, manufacture and installation – is a multi-million dollar investment and will be the first major offshore works for the Project. As such, a significant amount of planning has gone into the design and supplier selection and we are very pleased to be awarding these orders now.”

Julian Cockett, Fugro Seacore’s Managing Director said:

“Fugro Seacore is very excited to be a part of this world-first project. We look forward to delivering a quality product to support this innovative Australian technology. Carnegie’s CETO technology has the potential to play a significant role globally.”

Keppel Prince Engineering Pty Ltd (Keppel), based in Portland, Victoria, has been awarded the order to supply and fabricate the materials for the structural pile foundations. Keppel is an experienced supplier in the energy and resources sector, and was among the first to embrace renewable energy by taking on a wind farm project in 2001. The structural pile foundations will be manufactured from steel supplied by Bluescope Steel in Port Kembla, New South Wales.

GHD Pty Ltd completed the detailed design and installation methodology for the foundation. GHD is an international network of engineers, architects and environmental scientists in the water and energy and resources industries.

The installation of the foundation is scheduled to begin in Quarter 4, 2013.
