Pakistani officials have welcomed boosting bilateral relations with the neighboring country Iran, especially in energy sector.

Chief Minister-designate Shahbaz Sharif said that we will welcome Iran’s investment in energy and other sectors in Punjab, Iran’s SHANA news agency reported.

“Brotherly ties between the two countries must be transformed into an economic relationship,” he stated.

He added that strengthening ties with neighboring countries forms the basis of the PML-N’s foreign policy.

“Iran is not only our neighbor, it is also one of our closest friends and it has always stood by Pakistan in the testing times,” he said during a meeting with Iranian Ambassador Alireza Haghighian .

Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Ali Raza Haghighian met Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Nawaz Sharif on 25 May 2013 and discussed issues related to regional situation and Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project.

Senate Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Resources has directed Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources to speed up the work on Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project and complete it within stipulated period of time.

The committee recommended starting construction work of power generations units at Gawadar and other suburb areas to utilize the gas to be obtained from Iran-Pakistan pipeline for energy sector.
