Following the announcement about reducing the size of the Atlantic Array offshore wind project, Slay the Array campaigning group has stated that RWE npower renewables did just some minor adjustments, which wouldn’t make a big difference, Western Morning News quotes the group’s spokesman Steve Crowther.
According to Mr. Crowther, changes made to the project don’t change the fact that it will still be less than 12 nautical miles off the coast and that it still brings a certain hazard to harbour porpoises and other protected species which inhabit the area.
However, project manager for the Atlantic Array, Craig Harwood, said that the revisions have been made after the completion of additional studies and focus on the site boundary closest to Lundy and North Devon.
“They build on the changes we made in 2012 to minimise environmental effects. Combined, these refinements deliver the most appropriate offshore wind farm scheme for the area from both a technical and environmental perspective,” the news site quotes Mr. Harwood as saying.
He added that the project is significant for the country and will make a large contribution to the UK’s energy needs.
