The Energy & Water Consultancy services (formerly Metoc) of Intertek, the leading quality and safety solutions provider to industries worldwide, has been awarded a contract for Construction Supervision of the Ha Tien – Phu Quoc 110kV Submarine Power Cable by the Vietnamese utility EVNSPC (Southern Power Corporation under Vietnam Electricity).

Intertek will provide consultant services for the supervision of testing and installation of the cable, Vietnam’s first high-voltage submarine link.

The new cable project will speed up the economic development of the country by providing power to support tourism to Phu Quoc, an island approximately 50 km offshore, which recently opened an international airport.

Intertek will provide specialist services that cover the design, testing and installation of the cable, oversee factory acceptance tests in Italy, and supervise site tests, construction, installation and operation of the submarine power cable that links Ha Tien in South-west Vietnam with Phu Quoc.

Frank Beiboer, Managing Director of Intertek’s Energy & Water Consultancy services said: “ We are proud to support SPC expand their electricity supply in the region and look forward to working with them. Having already established expertise in the offshore oil & gas sector within Vietnam we are committed to providing SPC with expert capabilities, people and knowledge, on this, our first power cable project in the region.”

Intertek has provided a range of services in Vietnam since 1998, where it has 9 offices & laboratories and around 400 staff.
