Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari called for speeding up work on joint projects like the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline, electricity transmission lines and rail and road schemes.

During a meeting between President Zardari and his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the sidelines of the 12th ECO summit, the two sides discussed bilateral, regional and international issues, Iran’s SHANA news agency reported.

Iranian and Pakistani president underlined the need to accelerate the construction of the IP gas pipeline.

Pakistan will construct a 700km-long pipeline from its border while Iran would build a 300km long stretch of the pipeline from Iranshahr to the Pakistani border.

Under a contract between the two countries, Iran will export annually 7.8 billion cubic meters of gas to the neighboring country as of March 2014.
