Aberdeen-based Hydro Group, a global designer and manufacturer of underwater cables and connectors for subsea, underwater, topside and onshore applications, is supplying products for a project underway by the Turkish Navy to build the largest acoustic range in the world.

Hydro Group is manufacturing a full connectivity system for the Turkish Navy’s Acoustic Range, which is primarily for the calibration of systems, sea trials and exercises. The six-figure deal is one of a number of overseas projects the company has worked on recently as it steps up its international focus.

Hydro Group Managing Director Doug Whyte said: “ We have competed for tenders for a number of extremely interesting pieces of work this year taking place in the UK and internationally. Winning the contract to supply a full connectivity system for what will be the biggest acoustic range built to date is very exciting for Hydro Group and we hope it will lead to further work in future.’’

In addition, Hydro Group has recently welcomed a number of visits by overseas delegations and politicians to its headquarters, as it sets about laying the foundations for expected growth of the company over the next 12 months.

Hydro Group has been actively looking for potential firms in Brazil to form a joint venture agreement with and recently welcomed a 30-strong delegation from Brazil to its engineering and manufacturing facility at Aberdeen Science and Energy Park, as part of what was said to be the largest business delegation from the country that Aberdeen has ever played host to.

“We were delighted to welcome so many delegates from Brazilian companies to Hydro Group recently. During their visit they were able to get to see first hand the high levels of experience, knowledge and innovative technology the company has to offer,’’ said Mr Whyte.

“Brazil is a high growth and emerging market, but also one that can be challenging to penetrate for SME’s such as ourselves. Therefore an event like this gives us an invaluable opportunity to meet with representatives from a number of companies in Brazil and convey directly to them what it is we do and what our plans are for the continued growth of the business. It also helps them form a clearer picture about what it is Hydro Group has to offer the Brazilian market.”

Hydro Group, an energy-service firm made up of Hydro Bond Engineering and HydroCable Systems Ltd, is a major national and international supplier of harsh environment engineered products to the offshore oil and gas, defence, oceanographic, renewable energies, diving and ROV/AUV markets.
