Qatar Shipping will provide and operate harbour tugs, pilot boats and mooring gangs for Mesaieed Port for 20 years from August 2014, according to a statement.

Qatar Shipping, which owns and runs a fleet of vessels operating in sectors including crude oil, petrochemicals and liquefied petroleum gas, already operates the harbour tugs, pilot boats and mooring gangs at Mesaieed Port.

This operation is expected to continue until the new contract begins, the company said.

“We are pleased to be able to build on our longstanding, extensive relationship with QP across a number of our business units,” Qatar Navigation’s chief executive Khalifa bin Ali Al-Hetmi said in the statement.

Qatar Navigation, which handles cargo, ships petrochemicals and repairs ships, merged with Qatar Shipping last year.

Qatar, the world’s largest exporter of liquefied natural gas, can now produce up to 77 million tonnes of super-cooled gas a year.
