Yesterday, Germanischer Lloyd (GL) awarded its “GL Excellence – 5 Stars” certificate to the Hamburg-based shipowner and ship management company E.R. Schiffahrt. The commendation was presented by Torsten Schramm, Chief Operating Officer at GL, and Jens Ahrenkiel, Business Development Manager.

Albert Schumacher, Chief Executive Officer at E.R. Schiffahrt, said “We have high standards when it comes to our own quality, safety and customer service. We are delighted to receive this award, which also motivates us to keep fulfilling all the important standards with our work,” comments. To date, six shipowners around the world have received the “GL Excellence – 5 Stars” certificate in recognition of their achievements.

The accolade is awarded for reliable ship operations and the introduction of and compliance with above-average safety, environmental and quality standards. In order to qualify for the award companies must, for instance, implement occupational health and safety measures, be certified according to ISO 9001 (quality) and ISO 14001 (environment), and follow both the ISM Code (International Safety Management) and the ISPS Code (International Ship and Port Facility Security) to prevent maritime hazards.

E.R. Schiffahrt is a maritime services provider and one of world’s largest charter ship owners for container vessels. The company, founded in 1998, currently has a fleet of 110 vessels in service and under construction. The vessels are operated in the container, offshore and bulk carrier segments within the framework of a close, strategic partnership between E.R. Schiffahrt and international shipping companies. Founded in 2006, E.R. Offshore is responsible for the management of special vessels for offshore oil and gas production as well as for the construction and supply of offshore wind farms.
