One of four 18th-century ships found on the sea bed off Rhode Island could be the Endeavour, the vessel Captain Cook commanded on his first epic voyage across the Pacific Ocean, according to US archaeologists. Marine experts have found the remains of four cargo ships scuttled by the British in 1778 in a last-ditch effort to hold off American and French forces advancing on Newport in the revolutionary war.
