There has been support for a plan to use fleets of privately-owned vessels as “mother ships” to process illegal fishermen. The Federal Treasurer is expected to announce $300 million in next week’s Budget for a major crackdown on foreign fishermen caught in Australian waters. It has been reported that a plan to commission privately-owned vessels will be included in the funding package.
