10,000 TEU Boxship Joins Navios Containers’ Fleet

Monaco-based owner and operator of containerships Navios Maritime Containers has taken delivery of a secondhand 10,000 TEU boxship.

Acquired in January this year for USD 52.5 million, the 2011-built ship was handed over to the company on April 23, 2019.

The unit is chartered out at a net rate of USD 26,325 per day until November 2020 and thereafter at a rate of USD 27,300 per day until October 2021.

Navios Containers owns 30 containerships, including one 10,000 TEU boxship it expects to take delivery of in Q3 2019, totaling 152,821 TEU, with a current average fleet age of 10.7 years.

Since the end of 2017, Navios Containers has grown its fleet capacity by 72% on a TEU basis. The company’s fleet increased from 21 to 30 vessels, representing a 43% rise in the number of vessels.
